This past Friday, Sept. 14, United Way of Central New York presented its Kick-Off Cook-Off for its 16th Annual community campaign. The event, which was held at NBT Bank Stadium, 1 Tex Simone Dr., featured several local businesses serving up delicious offerings.
For $5, patrons could venture table-to-table and fill up on their lunch hour, plus chat with familiar and new faces. The foodie-friendly event also provided a great opportunity to network and pit businesses against each other for providing the best food option. Anheuser-Busch’s house band, the aptly named Six Pack, provided an eclectic sampler of classic and contemporary tunes for the event’s soundtrack.
According to United Way’s video, Lisa Mondello of SRC said there was a 20 percent increase in participation this year from 2017, and money raised over $50,000. Feel free to check out the video recap and winners here:
Whether it was enjoying chicken riggies, nachos, bacon and chocolate-topped dessert bars, chili, and several other tasty samples, the event boasted friendly competition for those involved all for the sake of giving back to those in need and living in Onondaga County.
Kudos to Carrier, which went all out with their Wizard of Oz-themed station, including appearances by Dorothy, Scarecrow, and other favorite characters from the timeless tale. The company stole the show, took top slot for Best Theme and Best Non-Chocolate Dessert.
Let’s not forget kudos to our Salvation Army Syracuse (SAS) team. A huge thank you goes out to our Domestic Violence Services, Functional Family Therapy, and our kettle-wearing Family Place staff members, who volunteered their time to make this effort possible.
SAS provided two savory and sweet flavors of kettle corn: buffalo ranch and confetti corn. The individual containers appropriately mimicked the Army’s kettles, as did the costumes donned by our Family Place employees.
