The Salvation Army Syracuse’s annual Family Dance is a continual and growing effort to support our Tickets for Teens Program, where teenagers in our Christmas Bureau Distribution receive movie tickets as Christmas presents.
On Thursday, Nov. 8, the masquerade-themed event was held at the elegant SKY Armory, 351 S. Clinton St., Syracuse. The event welcomes anyone to participate and get involved with this fundraiser. A big thank you goes out to presenting sponsor C&S Companies.
For an evening, family members of all ages enjoyed several hor d’oeuvres and beverages prepared by the culinary staff at SKY. Kids enjoyed Jeff the Magic Man and his inflatable creations, as well as the evening topping ice cream bar. Families enjoyed the photo booth and took home a special souvenir, and everyone showed off their stuff on the dance floor.
Leading up to this year’s event, Tickets for Teens has raised over $30,000 over the past five years. The average cost of a movie ticket in New York state is $12. Each year, about 600 teens benefit with these tickets.
Including the raffle, this year’s Family Dance raised over $17,000, with 100 percent of the money going to benefit the Christmas Bureau Distribution program.
As we approach mid-December’s Salvation Army Syracuse’s Distribution Day, we’re growing excited about the possibilities. Last year:
- 8,761 gifts were distributed
- 5,739 children were served
- 2,372 households were helped
